Philly Hurricanes 16u Roster
The Philly Hurricanes AAU Organization was established in 2000 by Maurice Davis, Keith Walker, and Harry Smith. We are a registered AAU, USBA, Jr. NBA, and USAB Youth team. Our organization prides itself on developing young children into accomplished adults. Since our inception, with 2003 being our first year fielding a 17U team, we've had over 75 student-athletes go on to play at the collegiate level and 8 student-athletes go even further and play at the professional level. Our Philly Hurricanes alumni presently consist of doctors, lawyers, teachers, guidance counselors, and coaches. Our program aims to teach the game of life through basketball.
The idea behind starting this program was to give inner city children the opportunity to get off the streets, and get involved in something positive. We are dedicated to their physical, mental, and social development. We offer a comprehensive year round program which include supervised and individualized workout plans. Our mission is to teach young children the importance of teamwork, leadership, and community involvement in addition to self and social awareness.

Q: How was your experience playing for the Philly Hurricanes?
A: I only played for the Hurricanes for one year, but it was easily the best summer of my life. We traveled to different states, played against high level teams, and won a few championships.
Q: What was your favorite experience from this past AAU season?
A: It was our trip to Myrtle Beach during the July live period. We played well, had fun, and made it to the championship game. It was a great week.
Q: What are your expectations for this upcoming school season?
A: Winning another District Championship, and going first team All-BAL. I also want to win the BAL and make a good run in the PIAA state tournament.
Q: What are your plans for your life when you're done playing basketball?
A: After I'm done playing basketball, I'd like to be an audio engineer.
Q: What's your advice for younger Hurricane players that look up to you?
A: I want them to always work hard in every single practice and when they're on their own. Always be open minded to what coaches have to say and never underestimate an opponent.
Coach Postell (17U)
Coach Postell joined the Philly Hurricanes organization in 2015. He played an integral role in reviving our high school boys program and helping to establish us as one of the top non-sponsored AAU programs in the area. His 17u team not only compete in national AAU events, but they also compete in the Chosen League in Philadelphia, and the Dykman League in Manhattan. Both Leagues are regarded as two of the top outdoor summer basketball leagues in the country.
Before joining the Hurricanes, Coach Poss pioneered a basketball league at West Mill Creek Playground, better known as The Pit. The Pit League featured Philadelphia's top basketball talent and became a centerpiece of the city's rich summer streetball tradition, with upwards of 500 basketball fans coming out to watch the league games every night.
Something Coach Poss Would Say: "The greatest players of the game are usually the best students of it"
